What we will do

Inform you in advance of any changes to the dates shown.

Keep all sites safe and secure.

Ask you to register with and to receive updates.

The work we will be doing

We will be undertaking ground investigation surveys, for 6 weeks, along a section of the M42 Northbound, between Junction 9 and 10. In order to undertake our works safely, we will work with Highways England (subject to consents) to:

  • Close these Junctions overnight on 12 and 13 September, to install traffic management and overnight on 25 September to remove the traffic management. Close a section of hard shoulder for 4 weeks from 25 September to complete surveys.
  • Have clear signage directing road users along the diversion route, during the overnight closures.
  • Minimise the impact on road users by keeping all lanes open during our works. To do this we will set out narrow lanes and reduce the speed limit, along this section, to 50mph.

These works are part of the wider HS2 works in the area as we start to prepare for the bridge which will cross the M42 in this location, expected in winter 2021.

HS2 during the Coronavirus pandemic

We are continually reviewing the works on our construction sites in line with Government and Public Health England (PHE) advice on dealing with coronavirus. The Government’s current coronavirus strategy makes clear that construction activity can continue as long as it complies with this guidance.

The health and safety of our workforce and the communities we affect is our key priority. Please be assured that those sites that are currently still working are doing so because they can operate within PHE and construction industry guidelines.

If you have a question about HS2 or our works, please contact our HS2 Helpdesk team on 08081 434 434
