Green Bin collections to resume next week

Green Bin collections to resume next week

Published on Wednesday, 29th April 2020

North Warwickshire Borough Council is pleased to advise that their Green Bin collection service will resume on Monday 4th May.

4 weeks ago, the council made the difficult decision to suspend all Green Bin collections due to the pressures placed on resources by COV-19. Waste and recycling collection services have continued as normal to all 27,500 households every week.

Thanks to the efforts of our regular refuse and recycling teams, along with the assistance of colleagues from Leisure Services and the County Council, we will have the resources necessary to resume green waste collections from Monday.  Due to the relative inexperience of those staff who have been redeployed to support the regular crews, the service may initially run slightly slower than normal.  Only one bin per household will be emptied and no excess waste bags will be collected to ensure the service can run as safety and quickly as possible. Bins should be placed out by 6.30am on the usual collection day. Due to the current service constraints, the Council requests that residents leave bins out until they are emptied which may be the next day in some cases. Social distancing measures and appropriate PPE will be in use to help protect our waste collection operatives.

Council leader, Cllr David Wright said; “Maintaining our essential services is our upmost priority and we are delighted to advise householders that we are now able to resume our green waste collections. I know our residents will be pleased to see this service return. I am extremely grateful to our dedicated staff who have continued to work so hard to maintain our waste and recycling collections and to those new members of the team for supporting this vital service.”

The Council would like to thank residents for their continued support and understanding during these difficult times and to urge them to continue to separate their waste and recycling and to avoid placing any excess waste bags on the roadside.
